Self-Reflection Essay

Fist I want to begin saying how difficult it is for me to write on English since I was raised in a foreign country and English is not a first language it was difficult but despite how challenging it was, it took me a long time to learn and develop my English. So when I was told that I was required to take English 110 class by my advisor, I was afraid and extremely nervous because like I said English is not one of my strengths. Also I was looking through the syllabus and the work that we have to complete and that made it worse but I told myself that whatever happens it would happen so I went with my gut and joined the class. Throughout the course of this semester my writing has improved much better in four concepts. Being properly aware about MLA formatting is the first concept. Being properly aware about MLA formatting is the first idea. Second, having the ability to compile and combine data from diverse sources. Thirdly, being able to apply rhetorical core principles effectively while producing and analyzing a variety of texts And finally, the capacity to assess the work of others and offer helpful criticism in order to help them write better.

My MLA formatting was the first area where I made enough progress to be able to incorporate source attribution in my paper. In addition, I realized how crucial document formatting is, especially for this course where it is required. It is crucial to only use MLA formatting when absolutely necessary, as I also learned. MLA formatting is only essential when writing research papers because you will need to employ sources to aid in the creation of your paper. However, when doing so, you should give credibility to the other person’s work from which you obtained the material. Otherwise, it will be seen as plagiarism. The fact is that we desire to remain away from this. For this reason, every research paper should have a work referenced page at the conclusion of it. And by doing so, you make it clear to everybody who reads your piece where you found the material you used in it.

The second and third concept that I improved on was rhetorical analysis and synthesizing information from various sources. As we covered several rhetorical devices in class, our instructor showed us how to consider the purposes behind texts. Writing a summary of the rhetorical strategies was our first assignment. Utilized by the author in our pick. An example is when I wrote the “Mother Tongue” summary. Organize my essay’s concepts and developing an understanding of its structure. I didn’t spend a lot of time describing the essay’s context because the students had previously read it; instead, I focused on the author’s rhetorical strategies. I avoided using flowery language in favor of simple English that all of my classmates could understand. Learning the possibilities of the rhetorical methods at this era was one of the most important revelations I had. The artist can convince their audience to believe in their work by using these approaches. I realized that the more effective the art is, the more effective the rhetorical techniques are. This encouraged me to choose for my article the most powerful rhetorical devices Tan employed to persuade her audience. The essay’s context had the biggest influence on how I wrote throughout this Phase. I had to learn how to evaluate Tan’s essay correctly and determine the rhetorical devices she employed to support her claims. I had to go beyond simply restating what she said and clarify the intended impact her anecdotes and descriptive language had on the audience. This phase helped me achieve the Course Learning Outcome by aiding me to “recognize the role of language attitudes and standards in empowering and oppressing, and also be open to communicating across different languages and cultures.”

The last concept that I acquired in this course was the capacity to assess other people’s writing, provide constructive criticism for other people’s writing, and evaluate and incorporate other people’s input into my own writing. I learned how to use the criticism of others to improve my writing. I’ve never been against hearing feedback on my writing. However, because they were so open and honest, it helped me to realize and learn from my faults. I found that to be helpful because many people sugar-code because they don’t want to deal with the person becoming upset or telling them they are wrong. I could absolutely improve on one key concept by using different technologies to reach a variety of audiences, responding and writing for numerous contexts, and situations, even though my writing has improved in many ways during this semester. Despite being happy with the work I submitted, I feel like I could still do better in this area in the future, as I say I could improve in this.
